Good morning, I’m JJ Childers with another Monday Morning Mentor. We’ve been talking about healthcare the last few weeks and discussing solutions for how we all can plan for a catastrophic illness or injury. As we’ve learned, just one catastrophic health even be disastrous both for our health and our wealth.
If you do not work for a company which offers group health insurance and you cannot qualify for a private health insurance policy, you should absolutely consider applying for one or more of the many government and state sponsored healthcare plans. Between both the federal and state, there are a multitude of options available. The Federal government offers Medicare, CHAMPUS (for active military service members), Social Security Disability, and medical care for veterans by the Veteran’s Administration. Additionally, Medicaid, which is funded jointly by the federal and state governments, is available for those who qualify. In terms of state sponsored healthcare programs, every state offers some sort of workers’ compensation insurance as well as a state disability program. There are also dozens of different state-specific plans, such as Arkids First, which provides medical care to children living in Arkansas. For more information on how to qualify for any of these government programs contact your state’s Department of Health or the various federal agencies which offer such programs.
